When ‘Chhatrapati Shree Shivaji Mahāraj’ established the Self-governed Hindu Kingdom, our ancestors had played an important role in it. Our ancestors had a special Title ‘Samsher Bahāddar’ (meaning a Brave Sword). They used to write their full name as follows – ‘Samsher Bahaddar Shinde Gogalwadikar Ināmdar’ our family was very close to ‘Shree Shāhu Mahāraj’ son of ‘Shree Sambhāji Mahāraj’. In olden days our ancestors were the in charge of the "Hathikhana" (Elephant Stable), belonging to the royal court. My Grandmother Late Saubhāgyāvati Radha hailed from ‘Masurkawatha’ a village in the district in Sātārā. Her brother’s name was Shree Baliram Patil. Whenever there was religious function in ‘Adālatwādā’ in Sātārā, they used to invite five married Ladies. It was an honor and my Grandmother was among the five respected ladies who was always invited. Our ancestors participated in serving the country as well shouldered all religious functions. One of them was a ‘Sanyāsi’ (A renunciant) and used to be with ‘Samarth Shree Ramdas Swāmi’ (A great 15th Century Saint who wrote many Spiritual Books). When I was Schooling in ‘Sātārā’ I vividly remember that many of my Father’s friends 'Shree Rama Thombare' and 'Shree Appasaheb Aaherrao' used to visit our "Wada" (An old ancestral Villa). When my father’s Paternal Aunt brought him to ‘Poona’, she admitted him in ‘Numvi High School’. In the ‘Freedom Fight’ my father Annā participated enthusiastically to achieve freedom. Many underground freedom fighters took shelter in our "Wada". In ‘Mahatma Gandhiji’s ‘Quit India Movement’ and ‘Nasik Session’ Annā took part with great zest. In fact he shouldered great responsibilities of this famous session. He spent a handsome sum in this work. For the past 100 years, every year we perform a ‘Shree Satyanārāyana Pooja’ on ‘Shrāvan Vadya Amavāsyā’. In pre independence days after the ‘Pooja’ many folk songs were sung to boost the morale of the freedom fighters. Many famous and well known personalities who used to present then were – 'Thaksen Kākā', 'Rajābhāu Mehendale', 'Vishwanath Gavandi', 'Auti', 'Baburao Bhosale', 'Dada Pirangute', 'Jadhav', 'Gaikwād', 'Annāsāheb Mane', 'Rangarao Patil', 'Shinde', 'Bhausāheb Bendre', 'Madhavrao Nagarkar' and others. |
